Diagnostic Medical Sonography & General Vascular Technology Curriculum

Description

Coursework and clinical time in the diagnostic medical Sonography & Vascular Technology track will prepare students to perform ultrasound exams in a variety of areas. One area is OB-GYN, which includes assessment of gynecological areas such as the uterus and ovaries. The obstetric portion also involves assessment and evaluation of the mother and fetus including normal anatomy, fetal abnormalities, anomalies, and maternal disease. In addition to OB-GYN, general sonography includes several other areas such as the organs in the upper abdomen, such as liver, gallbladder, pancreas, and spleen, as well as "small parts" such as the thyroid, prostate, testicles, and breasts. Coursework includes comprehensive lectures on normal anatomy, disease processes, sonographic presentation of disease, and differentials.  All students are required to take and pass the ARDMS Standard Physics and Instrumentation (SPI) exam before completion of the program.

The General Track program begins each Fall. Program length is 24-months. This program prepares students to sit for the board exams for the RVT and RDMS.
