Department Chair, Cardiopulmonary Sciences

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Alan Alipoon, a cherished colleague, mentor, and educator in the School of Allied Health Professions. Alan devoted his life to respiratory care and to the countless students he inspired throughout his career. He served as Program Director of the Post-Professional BS in Respiratory Care Online program, faculty member in the Entry-Level Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Care program, and most recently as Department Chair for the Cardiopulmonary Sciences department. His kindness, wisdom, and commitment to education have left an indelible mark on our university and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Alan’s career in respiratory care spanned decades, beginning with his Associate of Science in Respiratory Therapy from Loma Linda University in 1977. He went on to serve in various leadership roles at Loma Linda University Medical Center before transitioning to full-time faculty in the Department of Cardiopulmonary Sciences in 2010. His dedication to advancing the profession led him to earn a Bachelor of Science in Biology from California State University, San Bernardino, and a Master of Science in Health Professions Education from Loma Linda University.

A respected leader in the field, Alan played a pivotal role in establishing the Respiratory Care Residency Program at LLUMC, mentoring future respiratory care professionals and shaping the industry through his service on multiple advisory boards. His contributions extended to teaching in the Cardiac Electrophysiology Technology and Radiology Assistant programs, as well as supporting the California Society for Respiratory Care’s annual convention.

Alan’s legacy of mentorship, innovation, and passion for education will have a lasting impact on our university and the respiratory care community. We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and students during this time of loss.
