The Health Information Informatics (HII) program at Loma Linda University equips students for impactful careers at the intersection of healthcare and technology. HII professionals play a vital role in developing and managing health information systems to support quality patient care, financial reimbursement, medical research, healthcare planning, and quality evaluation. Aligned with the mission of Loma Linda University and the School of Allied Health Professions, our HII program is committed to preparing competent health information professionals through excellence in education, mentoring, and global service.
HII offers exceptional flexibility, with career opportunities in diverse settings such as urban hospitals, rural community health centers, home health agencies, outpatient clinics, mental health facilities, insurance companies, governmental agencies, software vendors, and education. As the demand for healthcare grows, so does the need for HII professionals. The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects a 28% growth in HII-related jobs between 2022 and 2032, which is much faster than the average for all occupations!

Applicants who have graduated from this program are eligible to sit for the registered health information administrator (RHIA) exam.

To prepare our graduates to be competent health information professionals through excellence in classroom instruction, professional practice experience, advisement, and mentoring with an emphasis on global service.
Any student interested in the internship will be required to receive approval from their academic advisor, submit an application, and follow all HR processes. Students accepted and hired into the internship are required to register for an additional academic course to track their training progress, attend weekly virtual meetings, and set aside a minimum of 2-4 workday hours per week for their remote work hours. It is the responsibility of the student intern to arrange their work and personal schedules to meet these requirements.
